Hope
Pondering Hope this first week of Advent.
I grew up not paying much attention to the finer details of the Christian calendar. Yet as I get older, I find the rhythms, reminders and themes very helpful and grounding.
Today as I ponder hope, I am challenged to ask myself who or what I am putting my hope in? A power greater than myself, the answer comes back. Whew.
So glad I am not ultimately in charge. With my big heart, bigger mouth and much human frailty, I am not the best candidate for being in charge of the Universe.
For me, that power is God. And connecting to my faith through rhythm and reminder brings me both comfort and peace. Especially in uncertain and challenging times such as today.
I also ask myself, what am I hoping for?
I brush away the surface needs and wants and dig a bit deeper.
I hope for health and growth within my family; I hope for healing for my sister and a dear friend. I hope for comfort for other friends who are suffering great personal loss. I hope for simple and joyful times with my husband and children over the Christmas season. I hope for fun adventures in the new year ahead. I hope to be able to spend time in person with dear friends. Soon.
Hope: To have confidence; trust.
Hope: To desire and consider possible.
I will trust in Him and hold close to my desires for the possible.
What are you hoping for today?
